Congo volcano crisis

Hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing in panic after lava from
volcanic eruptions engulfing the town of Goma in the east of the country.

Huge areas of Goma were ablaze after a massive lava flow from
the nearby Mount Nyiragongo cut the town in two.

Dozens of deaths have been reported as people have been caught by rapid
lava flows.
The people of Goma are scattering into the countryside. Few have had
time to bring any supplies and there is no shelter.

Aid agencies are extremely concerned about the possible spread of
disease. Children are at most risk in situations such as this.

A Concern team is on the ground in Goma already and distributions of essential items will begin shortly.

Concern is appealing for €100,000 to fund our emergency response.
